Kranenburg (Kranenburg)
Kranenburg is a town and municipality in the district of Cleves in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located near the border with the Netherlands, 12 km south-east of Nijmegen and 11 km west of Cleves.
Since 1992, Kranenburg has evolved into a commuter town for Nijmegen.
The village has always focused on the Dutch city of Nijmegen, and the local language was Dutch until far into the 19th century.

Various Germanic tribes have inhabited the northern parts of modern Germany since classical antiquity. A region named Germania was documented before AD 100. In 962, the Kingdom of Germany formed the bulk of the Holy Roman Empire. During the 16th century, northern German regions became the centre of the Protestant Reformation.
